These Canadian Cities Are Surprisingly Easy Day Trips for Americans

You can have a great getaway without flying since Canada has cool places just across the border. If you get in your car and drive, you will feel worlds away but you won’t be exhausted from a plane. Here are ten cities up north that are easy to visit for a quick day trip if you want some fun.

The Ontario, Niagara Falls

Walk over the Rainbow Bridge to see the best part of the falls. You get way better views in Canada and can eat lunch right next to the giant crashing water.

Windsor, Ontario

It is super crazy that you can actually look south to see the United States from here because of how the river bends. Just hop through the tunnel from Detroit to grab some authentic Italian food or try their famous Windsor-style pizza which is totally worth the trip.

The Victoria, British Columbia

Take the ferry from Seattle for a quick trip. The city feels very British. The harbor is great for walking and the afternoon tea service is a really nice treat.

Montreal, Quebec

If you live near the border go to Montreal. The streets look like Europe and the food is awesome. It is a quick trip for a really cool vibe.

Kingston, Ontario

This place is known as the Limestone City because of all the gorgeous old buildings and it is a really easy drive from upstate New York. It is right on the water so you can take a relaxing boat tour of the Thousand Islands which is just stunning in the summer.

Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

You can walk the International Bridge right into Canada. Check out the famous locks and walk the boardwalk to see the massive boats pass through the water. It’s cool.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario

If you are up in Minnesota just drive up the shore of Lake Superior to find this outdoor paradise that feels super rugged and wild. You have to check out the Sleeping Giant formation and visit the Terry Fox monument which is really touching and has a great view.

Saint John, New Brunswick

You can leave Maine and see the Bay of Fundy fast. The tides are massive there. Watching the river go backwards at the falls is a total trip.

White Rock, British Columbia

It is basically on the border with Washington state. It is a nice beach town for sun. Walk the huge pier and have lunch while watching the waves roll in.

The Vancouver, British Columbia

It is practically a stone’s throw from the border and offers a mix of ocean views and big city energy that is hard to beat. You can bike around Stanley Park or just eat your way through the public market on Granville Island before the day ends.
